The Beginnings

There is the usual story of catching the art bug when one was little. It sounds cliche but is wholeheartedly the truth for everyone, especially me. I was an elementary art teacher for 4 years then moved to teaching high school and I have seen firsthand the inspiring state of freedom in which we create when we are young.

Maybe it all started in an art closet when I was a kid. My mother was an elementary art teacher for 30+ years and I can remember vividly every inch of her art room. It was a haven- any tool, supply, and object was mine to explore. And that closet! Double doors opened to a small room filled floor to ceiling with art supplies. I had infinite freedom to create. When an idea would strike it would be almost impulse to start grabbing what I needed to create it. I would plop myself down on the dusty linoleum and get to work making things.

Now my studio is in a slightly bigger (less dusty) closet, and I continue to make things. My childhood lives on in my love for experimentation and new challenges.
